I have been carving stone since about 1992. Although I have attended workshops sponsored by the Southwest stone Carving Association in Jemez Springs, New Mexico, in 2002 and 2005, I am largely self-taught. In 1955 I received a B.S. from the University of Oklahoma and in 1959 a Ph.D. in Microbiology from the University of Texas in Austin. After a 34 year academic career, I retired in 1996 and moved to my current residence.
The materials I have used are primarily soapstone, alabaster, limestone, and calcite. My sculptures range from the abstract to the somewhat figurative, and are inspired by natural forms, an things that leak out of my unconscious.
I have had work exhibited in group shows in Ft. Worth, Dallas, New Braunfels, Ingram and San Antonio, Texas. In the past I have been represented by galleries in Dallas, Arlington, and Blanco, Texas. Currently my work is on display at the New Braunfels Art League Gallery and the Gallerie at Gruene.
I am a member of the New Braunfels Art League, of the Regional Artists Consortium of San Antonio, and the Texas Society of Sculptors and the Internation Sculpture Center. My studio is located in the Texas Hill Country where I live with my spouse, Glenda and our cat, Leo.
